I have been busy of late and haven't had time to post about another of my artist friends until now.  One of the things I have been working on is a number of new pieces for an exhibit that runs through March 3rd at the ArtDC Gallery. Join me for the opening reception tomorrow evening. (Click here for details.)

Okay, next up I'd like to introduce you to Todd Gardner...

I have known Todd for many years and he is a well known in the DC area not only as a fine artist but also as an entertaining Master of Ceremonies for the DC area burlesque scene where he goes by the stage name Hot Todd Lincoln!  Todd is not an introvert!  He's as confident on stage with a microphone in his hand as he is at the easel with a brush.

I have seen his painting style progress from portraits to puns. I have had the pleasure of exhibiting with him at large events - like Artomatic - smaller events - like DCAC and artdc shows - and special exhibits - like Alternate Realities;  which happened last year at ArtSpace Herndon and It's Electric; a very fun robot themed exhibit that happened a few years back during a big snowstorm. Did I mention it was robot-themed? There are lots of robots of various kinds featured in Todd's paintings. Clowns are also a reoccurring subject. And, more recently, Todd has created a series of Coney Island style sideshow paintings that feature robots and clowns!  I think his latest sideshow series is some of his strongest work. Todd's paintings have a rough and textured quality and a playful but controlled palette of warm and cool colors. Each one is also a self portrait and, of course, most are amusing and full of life - just like Todd!

The ArtDC gallery's next group exhibit opens this Saturday and this show is going to be a lot of fun.  The basic theme is a "Whodunit" challenge for viewers to try and figure out who did what. The artwork on display will feature the styles of artists you know but may have been created by different artists you know.

I have created four new pieces for this exhibit. One of the pieces I painted in my own style and three other pieces I created in the style of other artists. See if you can figure out which ones!

Artists include:
Erin Antognoli, Michael Auger, Chris Bransome, Roger Cutler, Steve Dobbin, Dana Ellyn, Frank Fishburne, Todd Gardner, Sherill Anne Gross, David Hagen, Tracy Lee, Barry Schmetter, Matt Sesow, Paul Sikora, Scott Speck, Roy Utley, and more!!

Whodunit - Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Opening Reception:
Saturday, February 9th
7:30pm - 10pm
at the ArtDC gallery

5710 Baltimore Ave.
Hyattsville,  MD 20781
